papertickness
100lb Gloss Book / Text
25% thicker and heavier than 80lb gloss Book. Standard Uses: Brochures, Flyers, Catalogs, Door Hanger, Mini Menu, etc.
papertickness
100lb Gloss Cover
Similar to the 100lb gloss Book, but thicker and heavier, Standard uses: durable, heavy-weight Brochures, Catalog Covers, Flyers, Door Hanger, etc.
Banner quality is measured in weight. 10-ounce material is very common and is too light to hang outside. 10-ounce banners would be okay for an indoor-only birthday banner. If you want a very temporary banner that doesn’t have to hold up to much strain, this might be okay.
But keep in mind that 10-ounce banners are very thin, so light shines through them. They’re best if they are going on a wall or another solid surface where light won’t be shining through them, making it hard to read the banner
For most uses, 13-ounce banners have the right mix of thickness and weight and are most likely to last a long time. You may see a little light shine through them on a bright day, but nothing like the light coming through a 10-ounce banner. 13-ounce vinyl banners are usually fine outdoors unless you are going to be hanging a large banner in the wind.
papertickness   14 Point Gloss Coated Card Stock Heavy gloss coated card stock (coated two sides). Standard uses: Business Cards, Postcards, Rack Cards, Presentation Folders, Rolodex, Greeting Cards, etc.
papertickness   14 Point Premium Uncoated Card Stock Standard uses: Business Cards, Postcards, Rack Cards, Presentation Folders, Rolodex, Greeting Cards, etc.
Our 14pt Natural Cards are a light cream, natural white color with a smooth finish. The stock has a minimum of 30% post-consumer waste content.
15-ounce material is not as common. It is so thick that it blocks out all light, but it’s also heavier. trade show banners are made of 15-ounce, super-smooth material and are intended to hang on a banner stand or on a wall.

ADVERTISING MEDIA: The means by which an advertising message is carried to potential customers; including Internet, magazine, newspaper, radio, signage and television
AESTHETICS: A term dealing with form, design, and/or quality of construction of a particular sign, building, site or structure, that presents a judgmental statement concerning the level of beauty or artistic value.
AMORTIZATION:
1) In accounting terms, this refers to the method in which an intangible asset is depreciated over a specified period of time.
2) In terms relevant to signage and urban planning, it conveys the "grace period" beginning on the date a sign owner is notified that removal of a previously conforming sign has been ordered, and ending on the date removal is required. This process makes a structure, which was legally erected with all permits, legally non-conforming for period of time. After an amortization period, the sign becomes illegal and non-conforming. Amortization has often been found to be a form of regulatory taking. The legality of amortization depends on state law and numerous other conditions, and is frequently unenforceable.
ANIMATED SIGN: A sign depicting action, motion, light or color changes through electrical or mechanical means. Although technologically similar to flashing signs, the animated sign emphasizes graphics and artistic display.
ANNUAL AVERAGE DAILY TRAFFIC (ANNUAL ADT): Measurement representing the total number of vehicles passing a given location each day. These counts can usually be obtained from your State Highway Department.
Aqueous Coating: This finish is shiny and smooth, and is done in line flood coated on the press. It provides a high-gloss surface that deters dirt and fingerprints
AWNING SIGN: A building mounted sign that provides additional functionality as shelter.
Postcards can be mailed with 1/8" (0.125") radius corners only and are available with Our Mailing services at an additional cost. Announcement Cards can be mailed with 1/8" (0.125") radius corners only, but Our Mailing services are not available for these products. Cards with 1/4" (0.25") radius corners can be mailed in an envelope. See USPS regulations at the following link: http://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/201.htm#wp1042477
Appropriately sized (A2, A6, A7, A9 and 6.5" square) 70# Natural White Text blank envelopes are offered as an option with our Natural Greeting Cards and Announcement Cards.
When using arrows on a double sided sign, special care will need to be taken with the direction of the arrows. If you want the arrows on both sides of the sign to point the same direction when the sign is printed the arrows need to be setup in opposite directions on the production files. It's complicated, we know. dfsfs
It is not always necessary to scale your artwork. Scaling artwork can help to keep the file size manageable. Here are a few things to keep in mind if you are scaling your artwork.
Vector Art Grand4mat is able to print outdoor banners as large as 150ft x 16ft, however most software is not able to produce an art board larger than 228". Adobe Acrobat and other PDF readers / converters are only able to view a maximum file size of 200", resulting in a loss of artwork. For this reason, it is recommended to submit files at a smaller scale than the ordered size.
Raster Art Raster files are calculated by pixels rather than inches. The pixels are converted to inches based on the resolution of a file. The equation for the conversion is (pixels divided by dpi = inches). Raster files have a limitation of 30,000 pixels. A file that is 30,000 pixels set at 150 dpi will be 16' (200"). If your artwork is more than 30,000 pixels, we recommend dropping your dpi or scaling down your artwork.
Resolution & Scale Charts Grand4Mat is fully automated and expands/constricts file sizes to the ordered size. Resolution varies based on the substrate and ink used to print the final product. If your artwork needs to be scaled, we recommend using the following information as a basic guide:
Outdoor Banners: Full scale at approximately 100dpi Half scale at approximately 200dpi Quarter scale at approximately 300dpi
Note: Banners larger than 15 feet will print below 100dpi
Flags: Full scale at approximately 150dpi
Canvas: Full scale at approximately 250dpi
Coroplast and Adhesive Vinyl Full scale at approximately 200dpi
Foamcore: Full scale at approximately 250dpi
PVC: Full scale at approximately 250dpi
Indoor Banners, Car Magnets, Floor Graphics and Large Posters: Full scale at approximately 300dpi
Table Runners: Full scale at approximately 200dpi
Adhesive Vinyl: Full scale at 100 dpi. vector artwork is preferred
With Akuafoil, you can turn a wide range of CMYK colors into multi-colored foils. Akuafoil uses a special processed foil system that is applied under a 4/c process to create an array of foil colors. It's simple, affordable, and makes your prints stand out from the crowd.
For an Akuafoil job, you must include an Akuafoil mask file along with your CMYK file. The mask file indicates where the Akuafoil will be applied. The file setup is the same as Spot UV. Use 100% K where Akuafoil needs to be applied and white where the Akuafoil is not applied.
 ghjffgrffghft
As shown above, the file on the left is the normal CMYK print file. If you want the logo to be Akuafoil, then your Akuafoil mask file should look like the file on the right. The white indicates no Akuafoil and black 100% K indicates where the Akuafoil will be applied. When uploading, please remember to upload separate files.
Here are some more things to keep in mind when creating your Akuafoil artwork:
Make sure the mask and CMYK print file are aligned. They should match exactly in size and position.
  • Akuafoil works best on lighter colors. The darker the CMYK color, the less vibrant the Akuafoil effect.
  • Do not use very thin or small text and artwork with Akuafoil. Use San Serif fonts above 12 point for best results.
    • If you have Akuafoil applied to a white area, it will have a plain silver Akuafoil look.
    • For better quality we recommend creating mask files in vector based programs such as Illustrator or CorelDRAW.
If you would like plain silver Akuafoil to print, make sure to have at least 15% K in the CMYK print file area in order to obtain the highest quality silver Akuafoil effect.
 hgfhtrdffdffdfua-1
When creating knockouts in the Akuafoil mask or in the CMYK print file, please be aware that there might be a "Halo" of white around the knockout area. Below are two examples: On the left, a file with a CMYK magenta background and a knockout for the Akuafoil text. On the right, an Akuafoil background with a knockout for the CMYK text.

 These are the printed results:
 CMYK KNOCKOUT W/AKUAFOIL FILL
 gfffrffhft
 AKUAFOIL KNOCKOUT W/CMYK FILL
fgjjujhhjtht
You can see the white "Halo" in-between the CMYK ink and the Akuafoil. To prevent this, grow/stroke the Akuafoil area in the mask by 1 point. This will allow the Akuafoil to bleed into the CMYK area, reducing the white "Halo" effect. You can also fill in the knockout with a color to reduce the effect further.

BACKLIGHTED LETTER: An illuminated reverse channel letter (open or translucent back) so light from the letter is directed against the surface behind the letter producing a halo lighting effect around the letter. Also referred to as Silhouette lighted or halo lighted.
Backlit Posters are a 9mil semi-rigid material with a glossy topcoat. They allow customers to create messaging that lights up and stands out with vivid backlit graphics and superior light diffusion. Great for light box applications, this product is commonly used for Exhibition Panels, POP Displays, Movie Theater Posters, Bus Stop / Transportation Signage and more. Backlit Posters can be used outdoors as long as they are placed inside a lightbox that provides UV protectant sheets such as styrene or acrylic. Bleed: ensure that you have 0.25" on all sides of your artwork for a 0.5" total.
What are Backlit Posters?
Backlit Posters are composed of a 9mil semi-rigid material that allows light through. The unique base film and quick-drying glossy top coat on this product are specifically designed for superior light diffusion resulting in vivid backlit graphics.
How do I set up my Backlit Poster file?
There are no special requirements for setting up Backlit Poster files. Please make sure the file has a resolution of 200 dpi at full scale. Ensure that you have 0.25" bleed on all sides of your artwork for a 0.5" total.
Will the poster come with hardware?
No, we do not offer hardware for Backlit Posters at this time.
Can I use my Backlit Poster outdoors?
Backlit Posters can be used outdoors as long as they are placed inside a lightbox that provides UV protectant sheets such as styrene or acrylic.
Why is my Backlit Poster printed dark?
Backlit posters are intentionally printed dark so that when placed into the lightbox and turned on, their true colors show.
Can some parts of my design be transparent?
Because white ink is not used, large portions of transparent (white) spots in your design could result in the lightbox pattern being visible through your Backlit Poster.
BALLAST: An electrical device required to operate fluorescent lamps
BENCH SIGN: A sign located on the seat or back of a bench or seat placed on or adjacent to a public right-of-way. A type of street furniture.
Saddle Stitch
Saddle stitch staplers are bookbinding tools designed to insert staples into the spine (saddle) of folded printed matter such as booklets, catalogues, brochures, and manuals. Perfect binding: Perfect binding is often used, and gives a result similar to paperback books. National Geographic is perhaps the best known of this type. They usually consist of various sections with a cover made from heavier paper, glued together at the spine with a strong flexible glue. The sections are rough-cut in the back to make them absorb the hot glue. The other three sides are then face trimmed. This option is available only for 48 pages and above.

4Page Brochure: 17"x11" fold in half 8,5"x11"
The most simple catalog or booklet has 4 pages created by folding a sheet of paper in half. From there you just add sheets of paper and bind them together - most commonly by stapling. For each sheet of paper you add, the total page count increases by 4 - even if they're blank. If the paper is all the same type and weight, we call it a "self-cover"

BRAND EQUITY (Branding): The intangible, but real, value of words, graphics or symbols that are associated with the products or services offered by a business. Developing branding of a site includes the presentation of signage and architecture to create a unique awareness and memory by the potential customer of the products or services offered at that site. Brand equity for a particular business is similar to the goodwill of an enterprise.

UV is a high-gloss lamination. UV coating improves the durability of the cards for a long periods of the time. It also make your card looks better. Ask us Free Samples mail to you and compare UV coating with Aqueous coating and Varnish. We're so confident that you will agree on the quality. Can not write or print on UV coating. Aqueous Coating: This finish is shiny and smooth, and is done in line flood coated on the press. It provides a high-gloss surface that deters dirt and fingerprints
ENVELOPES AND LETTERHEADS PAPER EFFECT IN COLOR. Please note that because our letterhead and envelope paper stock is "uncoated", we recommend you not use colors with high color density. By this we mean dark colors (black, purple, blue, brown, etc). Dark colors tend to get soaked into the paper if their color values are too high. For best results, use light colors.

1. What process do you use to print Buttons?
Buttons are printed by a CMYK digital print process. They are near photo quality.
2. What are the different types of Buttons you offer?
There are 2 different types of Buttons: Locking-Pin Buttons and Magnet Buttons. They are printed and produced in the same way but have different backers.
3. What types of files do you accept for Buttons?
Acceptable file types at the moment are .pdf, .jpg, and .eps files.
4. How do I set up my artwork for the different Button products?
All of the different types of Button products follow the same rules as normal print ready artwork. The difference is in the safety areas. Each of the button products have the safety areas a bit different so we do recommend always using our certified templates to prepare your artwork.
Can I have borders in my artwork? Borders are not recommended due to cutting shifts. If your product is not trimmed exactly on the trimming line, borders may appear uneven. Especially for small products such as business cards, even half a millimeter of cutting shift may cause the borders to look uneven
When using a blue in your design, always make sure to leave at least a 30% difference in your Cyan and Magenta values.

Can I use crossover images and/or copy for my booklets and catalogs? For products that will be perfect bound, we do not recommend crossover images and/or copy, as these elements may be lost in the gutter and may not line up after binding.

Long Edge Binding means the finished book is portrait, Short Edge binding means the finished book will be landscape.   Print
Yes, but if the border is too close to the cutline, it may be cut off-center slightly.

These banners are ideal for trade shows, soft signage, retail and interior decoration applications. They are lightweight and wrinkle-resistant, and can be folded for shipping. Available options include pole pockets, grommets, and sewn hems. Option for white or black thread hemming is available.
Suggested uses: Wall decor, P.O.P. displays and more.
Bleed: ensure that you have 0.5" on all sides of your artwork for a 1" total.
Booklets are a little more complex to design. Also, if you have artwork you created from another company, it might not meet 4over rules. For best results, please download our templates.
Here are rules to follow when creating your Booklets: • Page counts start on the cover as page 1, inside cover as page 2 and so on. • Total bleed is .25” and total Safety is .5”. For example, an 8.5x11 booklet with bleed should be 8.75x11.25 total. This allows us to set up your crossovers properly. • Only single pages will be accepted. NO readers OR printers spreads. • We prefer a multipage PDF but single page files are also ok.
Our page counts for booklets start on the cover as page 1, inside cover as page 2 and so on. In the example below, you will see a 8pg booklet. Each page will show the page number. Click and hold the page corners to turn the page. This is also reflected in our templates.
Crossovers are common in booklets and require extra attention. A Crossover is an image, text or other graphic element that goes from one page to another.
Below you can see a good example of how to create crossovers:
 yfhtbhthfgfgd
Designers must pay close attention to the crossover design and make sure it is as seamless as possible on the finished piece. Also, do not use text or thin lines as crossovers. Big pictures work best.
Note: Due to the nature of saddle stitch binding, crossovers may not line up 100% on the final booklet.
Artwork done in Indesign or other layout software as spreads or facing pages must be saved out as single page pdfs. When creating your design, keep this in mind especially when doing crossovers. The easiest way is to create the bleed is when creating your document. Below are instructions on how to create your document in Indesign.
When creating your document, make your page size the cut size and your margin size .25” for safety for a .5” total:
 gfhfghtyjyyygs-1
Then, click the More Options button on the right. It will reveal Bleed and Slug settings below. Enter .125” as the bleed for a total of .25”:
 dffgdfgddryyygs-2
Your Indesign document is now ready for proper booklet layout. You should see proper bleed and safety guidelines:

When your ready to export your booklet as PDF, make sure to Use Document Bleed Settings in the Marks and Bleeds menu:
 gfhfghgfhgfgfhhhhvbvbrt-1
After submitting your booklet, you will receive an email from our online booklet proofing system called Fourte. This system will allow you to double check all the pages and make sure they are in the correct order. There you can approve or decline and re-upload pages if you need to. You will also be able to preview your booklet as if it was printed and bound.
Yes. Borders are an issue because all substrates will vary from batch to batch making exact cuts very difficult. We recommend that you do not design your file with a border. If you do Grand4mat will not reprint an order with borders of varying widths. If you absolutely must have a border make it at least 2 inches in thickness, however Grand4mat still does not recommend borders.
Brown Kraft paper is light brown with natural fibers and subtle visible flecks lending it a natural, organic look and feel. The uncoated smooth finish provides excellent print quality, while the colored stock adds warmth and a rustic appeal to images. Optional white ink can be applied in specific areas or all over giving you the flexibility to add contrast and brighten images. Brown Kraft is 100% recycled with a minimum of 30% post-consumer waste content.   brjkyfjdfgyfghy-1   Please be aware that recycled and colored stocks may have slight color variation due to the materials used to manufacture the paper. The flecks in the paper will also vary from sheet to sheet and press run to press run.
Coroplast, PVC, Foamcore, Car Magnets, Banner Stands and Large Posters: We require a 0.5 inch bleed on all sides. If ordering at 24 inch by 18 inch, your file size should be 25 inches by 19 inches to allow for bleed.
Loose Outdoor Banners, Indoor Banners and Canvas Banners: We request that no bleed or crop marks are placed. Make your file to the size ordered (or proportional).
If ordering hems, leave a 2 inch safe zone on all sides. Expect to lose between 1/8 inch to 2 inches per side with banners.
Mounted Canvas: It is highly recommended to use our templates for mounted canvas. The bleed requirement is 2 inches per side.
Flags: It is highly recommended to use our templates for Flags. We require a 0.5 inch bleed on all sides. Leave a 2 inch safe zone on all sides and the pole pocket area.
For a full product description, please click on the individual product name.
Table Covers: It is highly recommended to use our templates for Table Runners and Table Throws. We require a 0.5 inch bleed on all sides. Leave a 1 inch safe zone on all sides. Table Covers come with sewn 1" hems on all sides, white thread.
Polyester Banners: We require a 0.5 inch bleed on all sides. If ordering at 24 inch by 18 inch, your file size should be 25 inches by 19 inches to allow for bleed. Avoid having borders on the artwork, as the material may stretch during the heat transfer process which may result in uneven borders.
Yes. Landscape booklets are available by choosing Short Edge Binding from the drop-down menu Binding Edge.
Perfect Binding gives your booklets a more finished, refined look. With this binding method, the pages and cover are glued together at the spine with a strong, yet flexible, thermal glue.
Templates are available for both the cover and inside pages of the Perfect Bound Booklets.
Please note: Unlike our regular Booklets, the page count specified in the product name does not include the cover. E.g. "8.5 x 11, 52-Pages" will require you to upload 48 inside pages + 4-page cover file (which is always 4:0).

Rich black is an ink mixture of solid black, 100% K, with additional CMY ink values. This results in a darker tone than black ink alone. If you print black alone as 100% K, the resulting black may not be as dark as you might like.

 We recommend using  --- C 60 M 40 Y 40 K 100  ---  This will give you a deep, dark, rich black.
Brown Kraft has the option to add white ink as an overprint. The white will be a base for the CMYK providing a bright white surface which will allow for vibrant, crisp color. Areas without white ink will appear darker due to the color of the stock.
Similar to Spot UV masks, White Mask files are separate from your artwork files. Black in the White Mask file indicates where white ink will be printed.
Note: White Masks must be made in vector format and be saved as EPS or PDF. You may use gradients in the white ink mask file. Please be aware that anything less than 100%K will be transparent and allow the brown stock to show through.
Use vector paths/shapes to create black color areas that will indicate where the white ink base will go. The rest of the areas will show the Brown Kraft stock.
Remember the following when creating a white mask for your white ink base:
  • White ink base will be printed behind any color that’s in your Artwork Layer.
  • Areas with color but without a White Mask will be printed with color directly on the material.
  • Areas with color and a White Mask will be printed as opaque or solid color.
  • Areas with a White Mask and no color will be printed as white.

When you are done displaying your banner - in order to maximize your future usage, you must keep it clean, dry, and in a dry cool place while it is not in use. Your outdoor vinyl banner will probably get pretty dirty from all the elements during it's time being displayed. The best method of cleaning your outdoor vinyl banner is to lay it flat (if possible) on a clean area, table or floor. It is recommended that you use a mild dishwashing liquid and luke warm water to rinse. Do not use any harsh abrasive or petroleum type cleaners. Clean and dry each side before storing. You must ensure it is completely dry prior to roll up and storage. Any wetness left on the banner will cause mildew and may ruin some of your banner over time. Once your banner is completely dry - roll it up with the image outward - to avoid any cracking of the printed side. Do not roll your banner super tight or super loose - this will allow for some breathing room while it is stored. Place your banner back in box and store it flat, not vertical. If it is standing up vertically, it may wilt and warp causing wrinkles over time.

What is a bitmapped image? Bitmap means a map of bits (or pixels) that form a picture. Thus, a bitmapped image is an image comprised of pixels. Though bitmaps store images in high resolution, they do not rescale very well, and tend to appear jagged when zoomed in, and blurry when reduced in size. Bitmaps are ideal for storing digital images. Whereas a bitmapped image will lose clarity when rescaled, a vector graphic can be scaled indefinitely without losing clarity. The example below shows the effect of a bitmap graphic versus a vector graphic. When zoomed in, the bitmapped image appears jagged, whereas the vector graphic appears clear and crisp.

What is a bleed?
In printing terminology, the bleed is the extra margin on a print product that is meant to be trimmed off when the product is trimmed to its final size. Bleed basically means that the color and graphics on a product "bleed off the page" to ensure continuity of the color to the edge of your product.
When we print products such as business cards and postcards, we do not print on paper of that size. We gang-run print, which means that we organize several print jobs next to one another on a large sheet of paper, print, and then trim each individual product to its final size. Jobs cannot be trimmed perfectly on the trimming line each time. During the trimming process, a product may be trimmed within or beyond the trimming line. As a result, the product may have a white edge, or a portion of the artwork from the surrounding jobs. Thus, we require a bleed on each individual product so that when the product is trimmed, there is an extra margin to prevent imperfections.
A full bleed is required for all print-ready files. For the correct bleed for your product, please view the list below. For example, most business cards have a 0.1" bleed, so a 2" x 3.5" business card without round corners will have a bleed size of 2.1" x 3.6".
0.1" bleed: most business cards, folded business cards, bookmarks, CD packages, club flyers, collectors cards, DVD packages, event tickets, most postcards, rack cards, rip business cards, rolodex cards, stickers, table tents, greeting cards, "wink" special shapes. 0.125" bleed: a-frame signs, brochures, door hangers, envelopes, flyers, hang tags, illumaprint panels, folded hang tags, letterheads, mini menus, notepads, posters, retractable banner stands, staggered cut flyers, banners, posters (wide), window clings, window decals, yard signs. 0.25" bleed: booklets, calendars, catalogs 0.3" bleed: folders 0.325" bleed: business cards with round corners in either 2'' x 3.5'' and 3.35'' x 2.17'' size. Postcards with round corners in the following sizes: 4'' x 6'', 5.5'' x 8.5'', 4.25'' x 5.5'', 5'' x 7''. All special shapes, except for "wink" special shape, which is 0.1". 0.1875" bleed: roll labels

Many things can cause banding. Banding can be caused by the program that it is exported from, such as Indesign or Corel. Also, too many gradient steps, for example going from a very light color to a dark color, in a small area will cause banding.
 CLOSE UP OF BANDING

Coating:

The mixture of clay materials that are applied to paper to improve the smoothness of the paper's surface and improve ink holdout during the printing process. Examples are Aqueous coating (AQ) and UV coating. UV coating adds a gloss finish to the product and also improves the vibrancy of the printed colors. Spot-UV can be applied to selected portions of the piece, while keeping the rest a matte finish. gdfggdhggffddng
We require a 0.5 inch bleed on all sides. If ordering at 8.5" x 11", your file size should be 9.5" x 12" with bleed.

C1S paper:

Paper coated one side. Not to be confused with UV and aqueous coatings or laminates, the terms C1S and C2S refer to paper coated at the manufacturing stage, prior to printing. Coated paper has a smoother printing surface and lower ink absorption than uncoated paper. C1S is available for catalog covers and for our packaging products.

C2S paper:

Paper coated on two sides. Not to be confused with UV and aqueous coatings or laminates, the terms C1S and C2S refer to paper coated at the manufacturing stage, prior to printing. Coated paper has a smoother printing surface and lower ink absorption than uncoated paper.

CMYK Color Mode

Short for Cyan-Magenta-Yellow-Black, and pronounced as separate letters. CMYK is a color model in which all colors are described as a mixture of these four process colors. CMYK is the standard color model used in offset printing for full-color documents. If we print cyan, magenta and yellow inks on white paper, they absorb the light shining on the page. Since our eyes receive no reflected light from the paper, we perceive black... in a perfect world! The printing world operates in subtraction color, or CMYK mode. In practice, printing subtraction inks may contain impurities that prevent them from absorbing light perfectly. They do a pretty good job with light colors, but when we add them all together, they produce a murky-brown rather than black. In order to get decent dark colors,

The two most common color schemes are RGB and CMYK. An RGB color scheme consists of three colors: Red, Green and Blue. These three colors are projections of light that can be overlapped in millions of color-strengths and combinations to create on-screen colors and images. RGB colors are associated with television screens and computer monitors, but is not used in offset printing.
cmyk CMYK CMYK: CMYK is made up of four colors: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black. In full-color process printing, CMYK is the standard method for offset printing. In the printing process, CMYK colors are measured by their subtractive/ reflective values; when the colored ink is applied to paper, the surface of the paper reflects some color and the non-reflective (that is, absorbent) color is seen. CMYK colors are obtained by mixing the strengths of each color to produce a new color. The colors are mixed in percentages: 0 represents a maximum use of color.
rgb RGB RGB: The RGB color process and the CMYK color process work in opposite ways. An RGB color scheme forms color through an additive process; to obtain white, all 3 colors are added together, and to obtain black, all 3 colors are removed. In contrast, the CMYK printing process obtains white by omitting all color, and obtains black by using all four colors. One of the major benefits of RGB color is its capacity to produce many more colors than CMYK can. Unfortunately, RGB colors cannot be correctly converted into CMYK. People often find that a color, especially a neon color, created in RGB can't be converted correctly into CMYK but instead appears as an "out of gamut" color, which is usually dark and "muddy". To spot these color errors, and to prevent printing nightmares, it's imperative that all files are uploaded in CMYK format before any printing occurs.
yrtrtrttrtrm
Color Spectrum: The CMYK process is not without its own drawbacks. One of the major difficulties of CMYK is its recognition of the color blue. When blues are converted into CMYK, they have a tendency to print in purple. This is because blues are very closely related to purples in the CMYK color scheme. To create a purple color in CMYK, there are two variations of color strengths: 80 magenta, and 100 magenta. To create a blue, very similar color strengths are applied: 100 magenta. Because the creation of purple and the creation of blue are so similar, any small error that occurs while creating the document, taking it to pre-press, or printing it out, can change the color from blue to purple. To prevent this color change, we recommend that you reduce the amount of Magenta in your file to increase the likelihood that the color will remain blue when printed.
CMYK also has difficulty with dark reds. When dark reds are converted and printed, they have a tendency to print as dark browns. Like blues and purples, dark reds and dark browns have similar color percentages. Creating a dark red in CMYK requires 100 yellow/60 magenta/100 black. To keep your dark reds from printing as dark browns, we recommend that you reduce the amount of Black in them. The way that color is viewed on-screen can cause printing issues. A color will never print out to exactly to match its on-screen source. Colors vary from monitor to monitor, and different printers produce different color results. All these variables affect the printed outcome. To better avoid these problems, it is always preferable to view files in CMYK format. This will never be 100% accurate, but it will give you a better representation of your printed file. When using RGB and CMYK, it is important that you design, view and upload your files in CMYK. Most programs will allow you to view your file in CMYK mode, and we have a list of instructions on how to use CMYK in most programs. Black:Black can also be a problem for designers. This problem often occurs during RGB to CMYK file conversions, and is caused by RGB and CMYK's inability to recognize each others black values; a black color is represented as a "negative" value of "0,0,0" on the RGB color scale, whereas, a CMYK color scale represents black with a "positive" value (e.g. 75 Magenta, 40 Black). This occasionally leads to a situation where a rich black color that was produced in RGB, is converted to a duller, watered down color in CMYK. Unlike CMYK, that generates a wide variety of black color through variant values of cyan, magenta, yellow and black, RGB is limited to a single "0,0,0" value. This doesn't mean that RGB can't generate rich black colors, but it does mean that you have less control over blacks, when they are printed out, or transferred from file to file, and from program to program. Converting into a CMYK color scheme gives designers more control over the black color that is ultimately produced. They are no longer limited to the "0,0,0" value of an RGB black. When creating blacks in CMYK, many designers make the mistake of setting the black on the CMYK scale to 100. This is not, however, the best way to create a "rich" black, and it will cause blacks to print in duller, less-vivid tones. To obtain a "rich" black color, we suggest that you set the CMYK value to: 75 Magenta, 40 Black. COATED TUBING: Clear glass tubing, coated on the interior surface with phosphorus powder. Coated tubing produces a variety of different light colors, dependent upon the specific mixture of phosphorus powders utilized.
COLD CATHODE:
1.) Electric discharge lighting, which uses an electrode with a large metal mass to emit electrons. Neon tubing is a cold cathode type.
2.) Generic term employed to specify custom interior lighting produced through the use of larger diameter cold cathode tubing.

CONFORMING SIGN: A sign that is legally installed in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
CONSPICUITY: The characteristics of the sign that enable an observer to differentiate the sign from its surrounding environment.
CONTENT NEUTRAL: TIME, PLACE and MANNER REGULATIONS: Consistently applicable non-discriminatory sign regulations that specify, without reference to the content of the message, when, how and where a sign can be displayed, with physical standards, such as but not limited to height, size and location, that allow the sign to be readable
CONTRAST: The difference or degree of difference between things having similar or comparable natures, such as light and dark areas, colors, or typefaces
COPY: The words or message displayed on a sign
COPY AREA: Areas that enclose the actual copy on a sign
COST APPROACH (Valuation): An approach to estimating the value of real property whereby the appraiser determines the production cost of the property, minus any accrued depreciation. This approach does not merely include the hard costs of construction, but includes all soft costs such as interest, permits, and fees. In sign appraisal this concept includes the cost of replacing the message delivered to viewers
COST PER THOUSAND (CPM): Refers to the cost for an advertiser to send a message to 1000 receivers. The measure is calculated by dividing the amount of money spent for a given advertisement by the number of people exposed to it. (Based on this measure, signs are usually considered to be the least expensive form of advertising.)
Counter Cards are supported by 5" double-wing easel backs with an adhesive strip. Easel backs are applied and shipped flat. Final assembly is required.
COVERAGE: A marketing term that refers to the percentage of the total market population reached by an advertising message displayed in a given medium; measured at least once a month.

Crop Marks (Guide Marks):

Lines printed in the margin of sheet that indicates to the cutter and bindery where the finished product should be trimmed. They are also used to show what part of a photo should be used and what part should be cropped off. glghhhhrks

How important is it to convert my files to CMYK? It is imperative that you convert your files to CMYK, since this is the only color mode that we accept for printing. Any other color mode will not produce optimal printing results. Most commercial printers accept RGB images, however, using images that are in RGB color mode may ruin the appearance of the final printed material.

For Canvas banner, your files should be in 200 - 250 DPI and CMYK. No bleed is required for us to produce a Canvas banner order but you do need to take into account your own mounting / framing needs. Here are some rules to keep in mind when creating or checking artwork for Canvas banner:
  • Do not use borders. Stretching may occur in any mounting / framing process and the borders may become uneven.
  • We will not reprint orders that have been damaged during mounting / framing by an outside company.
  • Your artwork should measure the finished size you need and include any additional area for mounting / framing.
  • Since there are many types of mounting applications, we do not include mounting hardware with any Canvas banner print.

How do I set up a Mounted Canvas order?
Gallery Wrapped Canvas: Wraps your artwork around the edges of the stretcher bars so you see the image on the face and sides of the frame. Museum Wrapped Canvas: Uses your photo on the front of the frame and a solid color is added for the edges. It is best that the color for the edges matches the artwork. For Mounted Canvas, your files should be in 200 - 250 DPI and CMYK. They are printed and then gallery wrapped with 3/4" stretcher bars. We require the artwork to follow our templates. This will help visualize the gallery wrap width. They can be downloaded from our template page. Here are some rules to keep in mind when creating or checking artwork for Mounted Canvas:
  • Do not use borders. Stretching may occur in any mounting / framing process and the borders may become uneven.
  • We currently only offer gallery wrap for all our Mounted Canvas products.
  • Since there are many types of mounting applications, we do not include mounting hardware with any Mounted Canvas print.

Here is an example of how the gallery wrap will look.

Torquing of stretched canvas may occur to mounted canvas due to climatic changes such as temperature, humidity, or other changing environmental conditions. The stretcher bars are made of wood and are vulnerable to changes in humidity. It is recommended that stretched canvas print be kept in a stable climate controlled environment to minimize torquing. These issues maybe more prevalent in coastal locations and near large bodies of water where temperature and humidity levels are constantly changing.

What are the color options? Color options for pre-press printing are divided into three categories: Full Color Front/Full Color Back, or Four over Four (4/4): Four-color print job with color on both sides of the paper. Full Color Front/Grayscale Back, or Four over One (4/1): Full-color print job on the front, and black and white (grayscale) on the back. Full Color Front/Blank Back, or Four over Zero (4/0): Four-color print job on the front, and no printing on the back.

Basic CMYK
What is CMYK? CMYK indicates Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Keyline (Black). These 4 colors of ink are used for offset printing. Cyan is a shade of blue found in the 4 primary color printing process. Magenta is a shade of hot pink found in the basic 4 color printing process.

Pedestrian and mass transit circulations are not included. This is the basic measure in establishing cost per thousand exposures on signs. DESIGNING AND FEES

DESIGN FEES AND ARTWORK CHARGES

1. If their is a design fee charge then design fees must be paid in advance.

2. What does free design fee really mean? - It means that the first 30 minutes is free, any designing after that point is 40.00 per hour. Most Reasonable designs take 30 minutes or under.

3. If your design is free that doesn't mean your artwork is free, if you got a free design and want your artwork after the job is finished then you will haft to pay for your artwork according to the time it took to do the designing.

4. If you have your own design ready to go then there won't be any design fees. BEWARE - most people think that their artwork is ready to go when in reality it's not,, be sure that you have the correct size, make sure you allow for bleed, make sure you have at least 300dpi for most printing, for most sign work you need vectorized artwork, You're better off letting me put it into the correct floormat.

5. BASIC ARTWORK CHARGES does not include eps. or .ai floormats, if you need one of these floormats ask for a price.

What is the difference between a .TIF and a .TIFF, or a .JPG and a .JPEG? There really isn't a difference between a .TIF and a .TIFF, or a .JPG and a .JPEG, except that one uses an extension with three letters, the other with four. The files are the same, and will remain the same even if you change the file from the three-letter extension to the four-letter extension. For example, if you change a .TIF to .TIFF, the file will still open up the same; the only difference will be in the file name. The two different file extensions for the same file type derived from Windows, which required files to have a file extension of no more than three letters. Thus, the original .TIFF files were abbreviated to .TIF to meet this requirement. Macintosh platforms however, did not limit the file extensions to three letters, since the longer the extension meant the more descriptive, which is why Macs use file types with four extensions.
DIMENSIONAL LETTER: A specification description of a letter, logo or symbol, either cut out, cast, molded or fabricated in material such as metal or plastic to create a raised condition.
DIRECTIONAL SIGN: Signs designed to provide direction to pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
DIRECTORY SIGN: A sign that identifies the names and locations of tenants in a multi-tenant building or in a development made up of a group of buildings.

Dots Per Inch (dpi):

A measurement of resolution of input, output and display devices. 300 dpi means that when printed, each square inch of your image will contain 90,000 pixels (dots), the higher the dpi (the more pixels per inch) the more crisp the printed image will be. Our electronic (digital files) have to have a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Anything less than that is considered as low resolution and may appear blurry when printed.

ELECTRONIC MESSAGE CENTER: A variable message sign that utilizes computer-generated messages or some other electronic means of changing copy. These signs include displays using incandescent lamps, LEDs, LCDs or a flipper matrix.

What are decorative fonts/decorative typefaces? Decorative typefaces, also known as ornamental or display fonts, are embellished typefaces with unique proportions and shapes. These shapes and proportions reinforce the message or theme behind the words. Decorative typefaces are a popular choice for artistic work and are a vital element of a great design. They are intended for decorative purposes such as for headings and titles, and are generally not suitable for body text. There are numerous types of decorative fonts, including Amazone, Brush Script, and Apple Chancery, seen in the example below.

FASCIA SIGN: A building mounted sign.
No. Even the smallest transparency issue will cause problems with a printed file. It is always best to flatten any file you send to Grand4mat. Outline fonts and ensure that your file is in CMYK mode for best results. Grand4mat considers flattening transparency part of basic file setup and will not check for this issue. If you are uncertain how to flatten transparencies in your file or if you would like us to explain how to check for transparency problems please contact Grand4mat prior to submitting an order.
Often times, your artwork itself is set-up correctly - however, when you save as PDF - your PDF file will only output the size you have in your document set-up. To ensure your bleed is always acknowledged, you must include the bleed on your artboard (Document Set-up) in addition to the actual size of your finished size desired. i.e. If you order a 24" x 18" Coroplast, your artwork with bleed and document set-up both should actually be 25" x 19".

No, please ensure all fonts are outlined prior to file upload. If using Photoshop, please provide the flattened file only.
How do I match the foreground and background colors on my design?
To achieve a matching background color to that of your logo, e.g. a logo that is a square and has a black background color that needs to be placed on 2" x 3.5" business card template, please do the following:
Open your logo in your design program (likely Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop). With the Eyedrop tool, click on the background color of your logo - in this case it will be black per the example above. Write down the CMYK percentages of the black that you just sampled.
One example would be C=0, M=0, Y=0, K=100. (Standard 100% Black) Another example would be C=40, M=30, Y=30, K=100. (Four-Color Rich Black)
Once you're in the Advanced Designer software, and prior to placing your logo, fill in the background color using the percentages you wrote down which are those of your background logo. This will ensure that there won't be two different shades of black when your cards are printed.
This method is the same for other colors as well.
How do I prepare my fonts and files? Please follow the following steps before you submit your files. a. Fonts must be embedded in PDF files. (Some fonts have copyright restrictions and will not embed in PDF Files.) b. Embed all images and outline text in Illustrator files. d. Quark Express: Fonts and images must be included with all files submitted. (Mac only) e. Flatten all layers when working in Photoshop. When creating a file with a vector-based software such as Illustrator, follow these steps to outline fonts: 1. Select "Type" 2. Select "Create Outlines" When trying to outline fonts in Photoshop, simply just flatten the image.

What is Serif and Sans-serif? Serif and Sans-serif are typefaces that are commonly used for body text. Serifs are the smaller lines on the main strokes of letters and numbers. The structure of the serifs is considered less harsh for reading large body of text, which is why newspapers and books often use this type of typeface. A typeface without serifs is called Sans-serif (the word "sans" is French for "without"). Sans-serif typefaces are commonly used for electronic media. Since the computer screen has lower resolution compared to printed material, Sans-serif fonts are easier to read and follow than Serif fonts.

Feather and Teardrop Flags: Text and graphics should be placed at least 0.5" from the edge of the hem for safety. Artwork can be wrapped around the pole, but again keep important elements clear of the pole pocket seam and the hems. Bleed: ensure you have 0.5" on all sides of your artwork, do not add crops. Pole Flags: Text and graphics should be placed at least 0.5" from the edge of the hem for safety. 4over will professionally hand sew 0.5" hems around the Pole Flag. Bleed: ensure you have 0.5" on all sides of your artwork, do not add crops. Download and use our flag templates to ensure your artwork is set-up correctly.
We recommend saving as a .PDF. You may also send the file in the following types: jpg, jpeg, tif, tiff, eps, and png. We prefer that you send .PDF with embedded or outlined fonts. .PDF's are easier to handle and will likely speed up your turn-around. Remember to flatten your files before uploading.
What type of print-ready file formats are acceptable for uploads? The following formats are acceptable for uploads: TIF, .TIFF, .EPS, .AI, .PSD, .BMP, .GIF, .JPG, .PNG, .PDF. Recommended: To reduce file size, please upload in .jpg format. For all other file formats, ensure all layers are flattened.
  • .TIF (Tagged Image File) - High-quality graphics format that is often used for storing multi-colored images. Supports layers, multiple pages, raster images, vector images, lossy compression, and lossless compression.
  • .TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) - High-quality graphics format that is often used for storing multi-colored images. Supports layers, multiple pages, raster images, vector images, lossy compression, and lossless compression.
  • .EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) - PostScript file used primarily in the transfer of images to different operating systems.
  • .AI (Adobe Illustrator file) - Vector graphics file that uses paths connected by points.
  • .PSD (Photoshop Document) - Image file created by Adobe Photoshop; supports various types of Photoshop image options, including image layers, adjustment layers, etc. We recommend that .PSD files be flattened prior to being uploaded.
  • .BMP (Bitmap) - High-quality graphics format which allows it to produce large file sizes and uses image compression algorithms that can decrease file size.
  • .GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) - Uses lossless compression that may not degrade the quality of the image. GIFs store image data using indexed color, with a maximum of 256 colors.
  • .JPG (Image Compression File) - Compressed image format that uses lossy compression; commonly used for storing realistic photos (digital photos), since it is able to compress substantially with minimal loss in image quality.
  • .PNG (Portable Network Graphics) - A bitmapped image format with lossless data compression. Gradients come out smoother and do not have the distortions that may appear in a .JPG. Used mainly for archiving files. Does not support CMYK.
  • .PDF (Portable Document Format) - The most preferred file format to be set in pre-press quality. Ideal for viewing on multiple computers, because it preserves the formatting, fonts, and other elements within the document on different computers, as well as when it is printed.

What are embedded fonts? Embedding a font means storing your font information in the file so that when your file is opened on a different computer, the fonts do not vary in appearance. If your fonts are not embedded, a different font may be substituted for your document. To prevent these variations, embed all your fonts in PDF files.
What are typefaces and fonts? In typography, a typeface is the design of the set of characters. Times New Roman is one typeface, Arial is another. There are many different categories of typefaces, including: Roman (Serif, Sans-serif, Script, Ornamental), Blackletter, Gaelic, Monospaced, Symbol. A font is a set of characters in a particular size and typeface. For example, within the typeface Times New Roman, is a series of fonts. Times New Roman in 20 pt. is a font, and Times New Roman in 16 pt. is another font. Times New Roman in 16 pt., Bold and Italic is yet another. In other words, a font is a member of a typeface family, and designates the size and style of the typeface.

The default font for the Variable Numbering portion is 14pt Calibri, black ink only. Black ink for the numbering should be taken into consideration when designing your artwork file. If your background images are dark, you may need to KO (knock out) the background image in the numbering areas, so that the numbers are visible. Note: The CSV data file may contain up to 5 digits or characters for each record.
Low resolution files may be printed as is or will be placed on hold until we receive new files, slowing your turn-around.

We only accept 300 dpi files and no less.

If you select the 14 pt. Gloss Coated Cover, Full Color Front/Grayscale Back, or Full Color Front/Blank Back, you will not have the option to select "No High Gloss UV Coating Back".
You do not see this option because we UV full color sides only.
This same rule applies when you select 16 pt. Dull Cover and 4/0 or 4/1; you will only see the option to apply High Gloss UV Coating on the front.
Grayscale images that are converted to CMYK will have a color shift in the final print. That shift may be green or yellow.
GRAYSCALE ON SCREEN -------------------- GRAYSCALE AFTER PRINT
 fgffgy
Always check the CMYK values of your grayscale in the final CMYK document. If there are other values other than K in your grayscale image, there is a chance that the color will vary.
To eliminate all values other than K, use your Channel Mixer (adjustment layer) in Photoshop, then click "Monochrome" and adjust accordingly.
We offer two variations of Gift Cards Slits - Slide Slits and Moon Slits. You can choose from positioning the slits on the Inside Bottom Panel or on the Inside Right Panel. See attached illustration for a visual representation. Please be sure to use our templates.   ghtufghjghhjjkkklks
What is grayscale color mode? What is rich black? Grayscale color mode, also known as black and white color mode, is composed of two colors: black and white. It is used to reproduce an image with different shades of grey. A computer monitor represents only one form of black. In print, there are several ways to represent black, including "rich black". Rich black is a darker, deeper black that combines a percentage of all the four CMYK inks. The values to create rich black for coated stocks are: C = 30, M = 30, Y = 30, and K = 100. The values to create rich black for uncoated stocks are: C = 20, M = 20, Y = 20, and K = 100. For gray densities, we recommend that the file have the following color values: C=10, M=10, Y=10. For the K value, anything under 100 would be considered a gray.

Grommets are the metal eyelets all around the edge of the banner that you use to hang the banner. These are also very important because the metal rings protect the banner from tearing. Make sure you use all the grommets when you hang a banner outside – putting all the strain on just the four corners can tear even the highest quality banner.
GROUND SIGN: A freestanding sign with no visible support structure.
What are guidelines, and how do I prepare guidelines in my artwork? It is helpful to use guidelines in your artwork for print-ready files. Guidelines such as the safe zone, the trimming zone, and the bleed help designate where your product will be trimmed, as well as help you keep important elements such as text and graphics away from the trimming margin. Please provide us with a bleed all around your artwork, and make sure to keep all critical elements such as text and graphics within the Safe Zone.

2014 Traffic Sign Retroreflective Sheeting Identification Guide

Download Version PDF [537 KB]
This document is intended to help identify sign sheeting materials for rigid signs and their common specification designations. It is not a qualified product list. FHWA does not endorse or approve sign sheeting materials. Many other sheeting materials not listed here are available for delineation and construction/work zone uses. Many sign sheeting materials have watermarks and/or patterns that are used to identify the material type and manufacturer. The watermarks shown in this guide have been enhanced. The watermarks will be less visible in practice and may not be present on smaller pieces of sheeting due to the spacing.

When placing an order for Adhesive Vinyl Decals, the file being printed will be the actual size ordered. Example: if an order of 12 inches by 12 inches is placed, the Adhesive Vinyl Decal is printed at 12 inches by 12 inches. No cut file is necessary in this case. A kiss cut adds an extra step to the Adhesive Vinyl Decals by cutting the top adhesive layer in the areas specified by the cut file. Example: if an order of 12 inches by 12 inches Adhesive Vinyl Decal with Kiss Cut option is placed, the order will print at 12 inches by 12 inches with specified areas cut out. Your customer will be able to peel these stickers off one by one. 10fddgsddsddt

4D Prints is a Lenticular product that allows you to have two or three different pictures in one. We take your images and create a swapping effect, each image vanishing and then reappearing from one to another as you move it up and down. There is a backing that can also be printed in normal 4 color process. Total thickness with both plastic 4D viewer and backing is 21pt. Only the front side will have the 4D effect.
Our lenticular sheets are 75 LPI. LPI means Lenticules Per Inch.
Below is an example of the front of a 4D print. Click the Transition / Flip button to see it in action.
 hryrttyyty
 iyiuyityyrtrtg
 vgjghjhjkjjkh
As you can see above, your images will transition from one to another as you move the card up and down. At the moment, only a vertical transition or flip is available for order.
We require regular .125" bleed for 4D prints. The total bleed should be .125" added to the cut size. For example, if you are ordering a business card the final size you should upload is 3.625 x 2.125. The files should still be CMYK and 300dpi as normal. There are some other rules you should follow as well when setting up the front of a 4D card
  • - Dark solid colored and/or textured backgrounds work well.
  • - White and light colored areas are transparent, other views / flips will show through white areas causing a ghosting effect. White and light colored areas only work well if each view has white/light colors in the exact same area.
  • - Use bold san sarif fonts.
  • - Avoid small, fine and thin type. Fonts get distorted through the lens / plastic surface, so the bolder the better.
  • - Text that varies from view to view / file to file should NOT overlap, it should be in different positions on each view.
  • - 4D effect works best when the variation from image to image is subtle and simple.
Another thing to keep in mind is how many files will be uploaded. It depends if you pick a two or three image transition.
Two Image Flip:
  • 4/0 = Two images for the front only
  • 4/4 = Two images for the front, one image for the back
Three Image Flip:
  • 4/0 = Three images for the front only
  • 4/4 = Three images for the front, one image for the back
After ordering, you will be emailed a notification to approve your order. With the use of the con4mation tool, it will be easy to confirm your 4D print. It will show you a preview of how the Transition / Flip will look before printing.
Please note: the 4D lenticular effect can only be applied to one side of the final product.
Digital Letterheads can be imprinted on using some inkjet printers, however we strongly suggest that you test your specific application and printer. When excessive pressure is applied with a rigid object, imprinted areas may scratch or flake off. For best results, low ink coverage is recommended. Digital Letterheads are not recommended for laser imprinting applications.
Yes, Offset Letterheads can be imprinted on with inkjet and laser printers.
Luster cards are printed on 16pt card stock and have a 3mil gloss lamination making them 22pt thick.
Lamination:
The process of applying a film, often plastic or copolymer, to either one or both sides of a printed sheet. Lamination adds a gloss or silk finish to a printed product and provides durability, water resistance and tear resistance.
Gloss Lamination: A high gloss film applied to one or both sides of a print product. Gloss lamination is optically clear, durable and is scuff, tear and water resistant.
Silk Lamination: A dull matte film applied to one or both sides of a print product. Silk lamination give cards a luxurious smooth feel and may dull color and contrast slightly. Durable Silk lamination is tear and water resistant.
LEGIBILITY: The characteristics of letters, numbers, graphics, or symbols that make it possible to differentiate one from the other. See Conspicuity.
 Recycled

UV Coating: UV coating is used to protect your cards.

LOGO: A design that represents goods, identity or service.
Luster Cards are water resistant, but not waterproof. This means the cards stand up well when they come in contact with a small amount of water, but cannot be submerged in water without water seeping into the card and causing damage. Please test your specific application to ensure the cards are appropriate for that use.

Our 14pt Metallic Pearl paper is a unique stock that shimmers in light when viewed from different angles. The stock itself is embedded with Pearl fibers that give the paper an overall smooth, metallic look. Printing on this stock will give your CMYK colors a subtle shimmer, however heavy ink densities or coverage may diminish the effect.
Magnets are not always shipped flat, so it is highly recommended to lay them flat on the hood or roof of your car in the sun for a couple of hours before use. This will help evaporate any moisture build-up that accrued during shipment, if any, and it will help your magnets maintain a flat profile. You may want to keep them in a flat box or on a flat surface at all times and only handle them when cleaning and installing, to help maintain their flatness. We recommend you keep your magnets clean on both sides, as well as the placement area on your car door or area of your choosing must also be clean and free of oils, dust, dirt, and other build-up. It's a good idea to take your magnets inside your home or garage away from the elements and lay them flat in a cool dry place, while not in use. You can clean your magnets with a soft moist cotton cloth with water, no abrasive cleaners. It's recommended that you do not stand them up on their side, as they may wilt and might not lay completely flat on the surface of your car door after wilting. These suggestions are to help the longevity of your magnets.
MANUAL ON UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES (MUTCD): This manual establishes minimum standards of placement that a sign must achieve to accomplish readability and conspicuity. The manual covers a range of traffic control devices; specifically signs, which it breaks into three categories-guide signs, warning signs, and directional signs. It is based on the principle that signage deficiencies cause traffic accidents.
MARQUEE SIGN: 1) a sign mounted on a permanent canopy, 2) a traditional industry term for the variable message section of a canopy sign, 3) an integral sign and permanent canopy
Mesh banners are typically 10 ounces because the tiny holes in the material make the banner weigh less, but they are actually stronger because they won’t tear easily in the wind.
MESSAGE CENTER: An electronically or mechanically variable message sign enabling changes to be made from locations other than at the sign

2014 Traffic Sign Retroreflective Sheeting Identification Guide

FHWA Publication Number: FHWA-SA-14-022. You may download and print the electronic version of this document, available at www.fhwa.dot.gov/retro This document is intended to help identify sign sheeting materials for rigid signs and their common specification designations.

In order to preserve leading zeroes on your Variable Number CSV file (e.g. 001, 0001) please Format the Cells as Text before creating your numbered list. To include leading zeros: Right-click (or control click) on the first few cells, then Choose Format Cells > Text or Plain Text. Once your cells are formatted, proceed with creating your numbered list. You should be able to see your numbering correctly before saving your document. Note: If you close and reopen your document or look at a preview of the document, it will appear that the CSV has reverted and your leading zeroes were deleted. However, be assured that is not the case. As long as you were able to see the leading zeros at the time you saved the document, your CSV has the leading zeros. It is safe to upload your CSV and your leading zeroes will be preserved.
Artwork file formats: We recommend pdf. You may also send the following types: jpg, jpeg, tif, tiff, eps, and png. Data file format: We accept csv (comma delimited) format only. Note: The CSV data file may contain up to 5 digits or characters for each record.

Primarily used to intentionally overlap inks for a number of reasons, overprint can cause unexpected results. We suggest that you turn all overprint objects off before submitting your files.
 ON SCREEN VIEW AFTER PRINTING
 ghyyyffffht
In this case the logo was set to overprint. The colors from logo are mixing with the colors from the background. Unexpected results may occur if you have accidentally set certain objects to overprint. Always check logos and other artwork before submitting.

There are three different ways Pantone colors can affect the way your job prints.
The first is by object effects, such as shadows or glows, on top of your Pantone colors. Here is what the effects will look like on screen:
 fgfdf1
 efdtgtd2
Here is what the effect looks like after printing:
 htfhyedrer3
 jffggfgfs4
As you can see, when a Pantone color is under these object effects, transparency issues show up during printing. To avoid this, convert all your Pantone colors into CMYK before submitting your order.
The second way Pantone colors can affect your file is when you use transparent images. Here is what a transparent image looks like on screen:
 ifgfgcffffce5
Here is what a transparent image looks like after printing:
 ifcffvvvv6
You can see the image is no longer transparent on top of the Pantone color. These white areas will show up during printing. To fix this issue, convert all your Pantone colors into CMYK. This must be done before submitting the order.
The last way Pantone colors can affect your order is the color conversion between a Pantone color and CMYK. If you use Pantone colors in a job that will print CMYK, your job might print with undesirable colors.
Here are some examples of what the Pantone color looks like in the Pantone color book and what the CMYK print will look like:
 fgdfddddr7
If you send in a job with Pantone colors, the CMYK conversion will change the Pantone color. Before sending your order, make sure all Pantone colors have been converted to CMYK.

A popular stock for letterhead, envelopes, and notepads, this paper is compatible for use in your Laser or InkJet printer. Bright white, uncoated, and smooth: it's everything you need to make a great impression! Just be sure to avoid dark, heavy ink, as these may cause offsetting. In addition, we offer 60 lb. Gloss Coated Crack & Peel Label for Stickers, and high-quality signage material for Wide Posters, Banners, Clings, Decals, and Yard Signs.

Always remember:

  • Cover means card stock (thick paper).

  • You cannot write or print on High Gloss UV-coated stocks, and we do not guarantee that you will be able to write on Aqueous-coated stocks.

  • Glossy stocks provide brighter colors, whereas dull and uncoated stocks provide softer colors.
  • C2S indicates gloss coated on two sides.

Perfect Binding Instructions

We do not recommend crossover images and/or copy, as these elements may be lost in the gutter and may not line up after binding.

When sending artwork, do not send extra files, like proofs or samples, because they might get printed. Only send the files you need printed.
DO NOT SEND THESE KINDS OF FILES
 8edsffgddrdrddes
We are not responsible for these kinds of files being printed. Unless requested by one of our employees, DO NOT send files that you do not want printed.
When designing plastic cards, it is important to keep in mind that the frosted and clear plastic cards are transparent. Also, all plastic cards come with round corners at no extra charge!
 dfdgrgrvddfgrtto
As you can see, the difference in the transparency is shown in the image above. The clear cards (right) are completely transparent. The frosted cards (center) are semi-transparent and cannot be seen through easily. The opaque white plastic cards (left) are solid white and not transparent at all. Keep this in mind when designing your plastic cards, it will affect how your design will print.
 gtfhgtffffttdes
Since there is no white ink in CMYK, it is important to keep in mind that the frosted and clear plastic cards are transparent. The three designs above are the same as in the first picture. You will notice that the white area in the clear cards (right) and the frosted cards (center) has no ink and will show the transparent material it's printed on. In this case, the clear cards and frosted cards white area show up with no ink on the printed piece. Also, keep in mind that all colors that are printed on clear cards or frosted cards will be transparent as well.
With the clear plastic cards, there might be a small percentage that may have light scratches. This issue originates from the manufacturer and is due to the material and handling. To help compensate for this, we run overs of the clear plastic cards to help meet the required quantity.
Clear plastic cards will come with a thin protective layer on one side that can be peeled off. This is to prevent the cards from scratching during packaging and shipping.
Different versions of Illustrator– have different presets in the "Save PDF" dialog. The PDF presets in Illustrator CS will not save the PDF to the correct document size if any artwork extends past the edge of the document size. It will include all objects, including those that are not visible, producing a PDF with excess white space. This will produce a PDF that is the incorrect size. If not caught prior to submission it will not print as intended. For Illustrator CS2 and above it is recommended to use the "High Quality Print" preset. Every file is different and it is not– feasible– to include all possible issues in this FAQ. It is always best to double check your PDF for size and excess white space before uploading.

What sources may I obtain high-quality images from? High-quality images can be obtained from:
  • High-resolution stock photography
  • High-quality scanned images
  • Digital cameras with a high quality of 2.4 mega pixels or more
  • Remember - DO NOT take any images from the Internet, because most images you will find on the web are protected by copyright laws, and these images are not high resolution
Monitor resolution is much lower than the resolution of printers, so just because an image looks sharp on the screen, doesn't mean it will print well. If purchasing an image from a royalty-free website, please make sure that you choose a high-resolution image of 350 dpi. Your original file needs to be created at a resolution of 350 dpi (150 dpi for signage). If a file is created at a low resolution and manually changed to a higher resolution, it will not change the quality of the image. The only difference it would make is that the file would be rescaled, and the density of the pixels or dots would change, not the number of dots or pixels in the file. When you take a picture from a digital camera, it must be set at a high resolution in order to result in 350 dpi. We recommend you do this because you cannot change the resolution of a picture after it has been taken. Whenever you change the dimensions of an image or picture, the resolution changes also. The more you reduce the dimensions of a picture, the higher its resolution becomes. For this reason, we ask that you make sure that you save the picture at 350 dpi. Image resolutions can change if the image is resized or scaled in the page layout application, or if the image is resized or scaled when the file is converted to the PDF format.

Yes, Custom Shaped Roll Labels are available for the following sizes: 1" x 1", 2" x 2", 3" x 3", 4" x 4", 5" x 5" and 6" x 6". Choose from the size that best fits your needs, then select the Shape Option: Custom Roll Label. On the upload page you will be asked to upload the Front Artwork file and the Custom Shape File.
Custom Roll Label File Guidelines:
  • Custom shape file must be created a vector and saved as an EPS or PDF
  • Custom shape file should represent the cut line
  • Custom shape file should be a black line, 0.5pt to 1pt thick
  • Thin lines and small shapes are not recommended
  • Shapes smaller than 1/8" may have unexpected results and are not recommended
  • Bleed for Roll Labels is 0.125" from the cut line on all sides
Example of Custom Roll Label:

Overlaminating helps maximize label protection, adding extreme temperature and abrasion resistance, as well as protection from chemical exposure. Overlaminating is also an aesthetic enhancement with both Silk and Gloss options.
Semi-Gloss without lamination and Eggshell Felt can easily be written on with a ball point pen. Permanent markers work on all substrates and on laminated roll labels, if allowed to fully dry. You may not be able to write on roll labels with gel, ink or other types of pens, nor can you write with pencil. It is recommended that you test your specific application.
How do CMYK and RGB render differently? Both CMYK and RGB color scales render colors differently due to the process of mixing colors and how much mixing is needed. Colors need to be converted correctly in order to meet the correct color profile, depending on the medium. Since RGB has a larger scale of available colors, this scale may work better to produce specific colors that are vibrant, depending on the product. In print mediums, RGB colors will not be as vibrant as they appear on-screen. CMYK colors are more accurate on screen and in print because it has a more limited range of possible colors. Both color modes must be properly converted using various design softwares in order to produce true colors. Colors viewed both on screen and in print mediums will vary.
All of our Roll Labels have a 3" core and an outer diameter of up to 6".
When any CMYK colors overlap the white mask areas, we recommend adding a stroke that's between 1 and 2 pixels larger than the underlying white elements.
For some substrates, we offer either a 1.0 mil clear silk overlaminate or a 1.0 mil clear gloss overlaminate.
RACEWAY: An electrical enclosure that may also serve as a mounting structure for the sign.
READABILITY: (Also conspicuity.) The quality that enables the observer to correctly perceive the message. In transportation engineering, this word is being replaced by conspicuity

What is RGB color mode? How can I convert RGB to CMYK? RGB color mode combines three colors, Red, Green, and Blue. Your computer monitor, scanner, and digital camera all use a combination of these three colors to produce the final colors. Presses, however, require four different colors, CMYK, to produce the final printed material. Thus, RGB must be converted to CMYK for print.
  • You can convert a file from RGB to CMYK, but cannot convert a file from CMYK to RGB. If you attempt to do so, some of the image data in that file may be lost and become unrecoverable.
  • Keep in mind that your image may be created in RGB, but it will print in CMYK.
  • RGB color mode may look sharp on your computer screen, however, it will not print as it appears.
  • Convert RGB files into CMYK in Photoshop by simply clicking on Image > Mode > CMYK.
  • predsgtrgdfgyk
The two most common color schemes are RGB and CMYK. An RGB color scheme consists of three colors: Red, Green and Blue. These three colors are projections of light that can be overlapped in millions of color-strengths and combinations to create on-screen colors and images. RGB colors are associated with television screens and computer monitors, but is not used in offset printing.
cmykCMYK CMYK: CMYK is made up of four colors: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black. The colors are mixed in percentages: 0 represents a maximum use of color.
rgbRGB RGB: The RGB color process and the CMYK color process work in opposite ways.
With Clear Labels, you have the option to use white ink as your base color so your prints can be opaque in some areas and transparent in others. With Bright Metallic Silver, white ink will hide the foil material to make solid colors.
Similar to Spot UV masks, White Mask files are separate from your artwork files and Black color indicates where the white ink will print.
Note: White Masks must be made in vector form as shapes and be saved as EPS or PDF.
Use vector paths/shapes to create black color areas that will indicate where the white ink base will go. The rest of the area will represent the Metallic or Transparent label stock.

Black in the white mask file indicates where white ink will be printed. Remember the following when creating a white mask for your white ink base:
  • White ink base will be printed behind any color that’s in your Artwork Layer.
  • Areas with color but without a White Mask will be printed with color directly on the material. This means Clear stock will have transparent color and Metallic stock will have Metallic color.
  • Areas with color and a White Mask will be printed as opaque or solid color.
  • Areas with a White Mask and no color will be printed as white.
We require Print Ready files with proper rotation. Files submitted are printed HEAD to HEAD as-is based off your files.

What is resolution? Resolution is also known as dpi (dots per inch) or ppi (pixels per inch). It indicates the number of colored dots or pixels that make up one image. The higher the dots per inch/pixels per inch, the greater the resolution and the clearer the resulting final print will be. LPI, or lines per inch, is a measurement of resolution that uses a halftone screen. LPI measures how close together the lines are in this halftone grid. The higher the lines per inch (or the closer the lines are together), the better and clearer the image will be. In order to determine the appropriate image resolution needed for print, the combination of your printer's DPI and the required LPI must be observed. Whereas the DPI determines the number of dots per inch, the LPI is also needed in order to determine the frequency of the lines containing the dots, per inch of the halftone grid. Once these two elements are calculated, the correct resolution can be determined. The image usually must have 1.5 to 2 times as many dots per inch as lines per inch. Printograph Inc. prints with 200 lpi for high-quality, beautiful, final prints.
fvgghfhfdfffds

What is RGB? RGB indicates Red, Green, and Blue and is primarily used for electronic and photography purposes. These 3 colors combined in various percentages create any color in the visible spectrum. Various products use RGB because it offers the widest range of colors.

What is the acceptable resolution? In order for an image to print correctly, all file formats must be submitted at a resolution of 350 dpi at 100% of the final print size. When file resolution is lower than 350 dpi, the final print will have a substantial drop in the image quality. For signage, please submit files with a resolution of 150 dpi. A resolution of 350 dpi means 350 dots per every inch in the design.
All of our Roll Labels have a 3" core and an outer diameter of up to 6". This will fit most hand-applied dispensers – please check the specifications of the dispenser prior to purchase if you'll be using our Roll Labels with any other dispenser.
If selecting our 5/0 option, a white mask will be required. Please refer to the question above (How do I set up and create a Bright Silver Metallic or Clear Roll Label with white ink?) for instructions on how to set up your white ink file.
Our Roll Labels are very high quality but the print may not be as sharp as it is with Offset – you may lose some quality, particularly with images. Try to keep all images above 300 dpi.

Saddle Stitch Saddle stitch staplers are bookbinding tools designed to insert staples into the spine (saddle) of folded printed matter such as booklets, catalogues, brochures, and manuals.
Perfect binding:
Perfect binding is often used, and gives a result similar to paperback books.

Perfect Binding Instructions

We do not recommend crossover images and/or copy, as these elements may be lost in the gutter and may not line up after binding. Please design your files on our templates and keep all critical images and/or copy within the Safe Zone. This will ensure these elements are clearly visible and there are no line-up registration issues when the product is bound.

Raised Spot UV jobs are set up the same way as Spot UV jobs. When creating a Raised Spot UV job, you must include a Raised Spot UV mask file along with the regular print file. Please note, the mask file must be vector art created in vector-based programs such as Illustrator. The Raised Spot UV mask file is used to show where the UV coating needs to be applied. Please only use solid 100% K (C 0%, M 0%, Y 0%, K 100%) to indicate where you would like the UV. Do not use shadows, glows or grayscale images. White will indicate no UV.
When creating a Spot UV job, you must include a Spot UV template file along with the regular print file. The Spot UV template file is used to show where the UV coating needs to be applied.

STREET FURNITURE: Advertising displays, many which provide a public amenity, positioned at close proximity to pedestrians for eye-level viewing or at a curbside to reach vehicular traffic. An example is a bench sign.
We start with 16pt stock as a base and apply 1.5mil soft velvet, scuff resistant laminate to both sides of the sheet for a total thickness of 19pt. The soft velvet lamination adds a soft supple look and feel, which softens colors, reduces contrast and gives an overall lighter, muted appearance.
Suede Cards are water resistant, but not waterproof. This means the cards stand up well when they come in contact with a small amount of water, but cannot be submerged in water without water seeping into the card and causing damage. Please test your specific application to ensure the cards are appropriate for that use.
The term “Suede” refers to the soft, supple texture of the cards, not the actual materials used. A soft velvet laminate is applied to both sides of the card to achieve a luxurious suede-like look and feel.
StarLustre Cards are made of a luminescent stock with a sheen silver tint. It is 110lb Cover and the caliper is 10pt.
What is the Safe Zone? The Safe Zone is the area where all the critical elements (text, images, logos, etc.) must be placed, so that they are not trimmed off when the product is trimmed to the final size. Please make sure to remain within the Safe Zone, as elements on the Safe Zone line may be cut off during trimming.

Spot UV is a flat finish of a shiny layer that goes on the exact spot where you would like your printed piece to have an area of a high gloss coating. Raised Spot UV is the same process, except the UV that gets applied stands out from the product, that if you run your fingers over the card you will feel the UV. The depth of the Raised Spot UV is 50 microns.
It is recommended that you do not use smaller than 6pt font on the Raised Spot UV Artwork. If, however, you use fonts with thicker strokes, it is recommended that you do not use smaller than 9pt font.   rafcgffgdsffffts

14"x18" As you can see, the print area (GREEN) will be printed on the shirt. Anything outside that area (RED) will not be printed. fggdrrrq
-Do I need to set up my artwork differently for various colors?
No. For all T-Shirts; the background color of your artwork must be transparent if you want the color of the garment to show. Saving a transparent PDF or TIF file is the best way to do this. You can also send in EPS files with no background. tshghgnghgaq For example, if you want a logo printed on a garment and your artwork contains the logo with a white background, or any background color, it will print as you see it on the file. The logo must be on a transparent background if you only want the logo to print.
-Do you offer templates to assist in setup for T-Shirts?
To help visualize setup and bleed rules, you can use our T-Shirt templates available here
- Do I need to setup my T-Shirt files with Bleed?
T-Shirt art files do not need bleed. Please submit your files exact size

• Do not paste small or low resolution images into your design file (such as a logo that is only 0.75”x1” in size, for example).
• Low resolution images will not print clearly (72 DPI or less). This includes images copied off of the internet.
• The best way to check the print quality of an image is to view that image at Print Size, if possible. Whatever appears pixilated or blurry will print that way.
• The next‐best way to check the print quality of an image is to view that image at its Actual Size (100%). Whatever appears pixilated or blurry will print that way.
• The units of measure used by eSigns.com are feet and inches. 1’ = 12”
• To find how many inches a given side of a sign with a size listed in feet equals, multiply the given value by 12. (So a horizontal banner of 3’x6’ is equal to 36”x72”.)
• Products are listed by Height (top‐to‐bottom) first, and Width (left‐to‐right) second. (So 3’x6’ is a horizontal (landscape) sign, and 6’x3’ is a vertical (portrait) sign.)
• For best results, your design file should have a resolution of 150 DPI and the canvas/page size should be set to the actual size of the sign (in inches).
• Design files larger than the actual size of the sign can be submitted. (Decreasing the size of an image normally does not cause problems.)
• Design files smaller than the actual size of the sign will usually need to be adjusted before being printed.
• If working at half of the sign’s actual size would be easier - and depending on the computer and software you’re using, it may be - then please make sure your file’s resolution is at least 300 DPI.
• If you have a complete design file, make sure you’ve selected the Upload Print-Ready Design option instead of-the Design Online option before uploading your file.
•Uploading your design for proofing takes place before placing an order, so there is no obligation to buy if the proof shows the design to be unsuitable for printing.
• While you may choose to skip the proof for your file, it is not recommended - skipping the proof means that any problems your design may have will not be discovered until after the order has been placed, rather than before.
• If problems are found with a skipped proof or an online design, we will send notice by email.
Final Tips & Tricks:
• ZIPX: This compression format will give the best results but is only supported by a limited number of programs at this time. If using this format, it will help to create a Self-Extracting Archive file. That will allow someone who does not have a program that works with ZIPX files to extract the design. Please make sure to let our personnel know that you will be uploading such a file, otherwise the file (which will be an EXE) may be rejected. A stand‐alone ZIPX file may also be rejected without advanced notice.
• If you have a full version of Adobe Acrobat®, you have another tool available to you that can help make your design something easy to transfer and process. The “Create PDF from File” option can be used to import and convert a design file that is over the 100 MB file size limit directly to PDF. (One example of this process is a recent TIFF of just under 400 MB. Putting it into a ZIP file reduced the file size by 63% (139 MB). Putting it into a ZIPX file brought it down by 80% (79 MB). And converting it to PDF in Acrobat® brought it down to 11 MB (about 2.8% of the file’s original size, without a loss of image quality).
• PSB Files: If you work with PSD and PSB files in older versions of Photoshop or applications that don’t support layers, you can add a flattened version of the image to the saved file. Note: If you save an image in an earlier version of Photoshop, features that version doesn’t support are discarded. It can help to make sure you produce a PSB file with the compatibility settings turned on.
1. Choose Edit > Preferences > File Handling (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences > File Handling (Mac OS).
2. From the Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility menu, choose any of the following: Always ‐ Saves a composite (flattened) image along with the layers of your document. Ask ‐ Asks whether to maximize compatibility when you save. Never ‐ Saves only a layered image.

7. Do I need to set-up my artwork file differently for various colors?
No. For all Tote Bags; the background color of your artwork must be transparent if you want the color of the bag to show. Saving a transparent PDF or TIF file is the best way to do this. You can also send in EPS files with no background. tshghgnghgaq For example, if you want a logo printed on a bag and your artwork contains the logo with a white background, or any background color, it will print as you see it on the file. The logo must be on a transparent background if you only want the logo to print.
8. Do you offer templates to assist in setup for Tote Bags?
To help visualize setup and bleed rules, you can use our Tote Bag templates.

10. Do I need to include crop marks for my Tote Bag files?
No, please do not send your artwork with crop marks or any other printer marks, including crop marks, registration marks, or color bars.
What is the Trimming Zone? The Trimming Zone, or the trim line, is where the product will be trimmed to its final size. The trim line indicates the final size of the product. Please keep in mind that variations may occur during the trimming process, and we cannot guarantee that your product will be trimmed perfectly along the trim line.

Work and Tumble:

A printing method where different pages are assembled so that they are on one plate. One side is printed and the sheet is turned from front to rear so that you are using the opposite edge as the gripper edge and then the second side is printed. The product is then cut apart to make two finished items.

What is Gloss Spot UV and how do I prepare my files for Gloss Spot UV? Gloss Spot UV is the application of High Gloss UV Coating to certain areas of the design. It helps make these areas of your design pop out for a truly impressive outcome. To prepare your files for Gloss Spot UV, Please keep in mind that not all products have Gloss Spot UV available.
What is the maximum file size acceptable for uploads?
The maximum file size acceptable for uploads is 75MB (megabytes) per file. Before uploading your file, make sure to check the image size. In Photoshop, click on Image > Image Size, and proportion your image correctly. However, if your files exceed this size, we also offer brokers the ability to transfer files via FTP (File Transfer Protocol). For more information about FTP. Recommended: To reduce file size, please upload in .jpg format. For all other file formats, ensure all layers are flattened.
UV Coating: UV coating is used to protect your cards.

UV Inks

Definition: UV-curable inks are "cured" once they are exposed to wavelengths of UV light. the ink consists of a photo initiator, and when exposed to the UV light, it undergoes a chemical process that transforms the ink into a solid film that tightly adheres directly onto the substrate's surface

Blockout Vinyl is an opaque material that will not let sun or any light through it. It is also not transparent when looking at it from the back. It’s heavier and more durable than our 13oz Banner material plus it’s low curl so even if it’s stored in a tube, it will stay smooth when rolled out. Blackout Vinyl is perfect for hanging banners or signs where banner opacity is needed.
We cannot guarantee the quality of inkjet printing on Envelopes with Variable Addressing, so it is not recommended.
Raster based artwork such as photos, or flattened artwork (from Adobe Photoshop) are made up of tiny squares (pixels) and depending on your resolution and/or final output size desired, the file could have a low quality end result. Any raster elements you wish to use should have a high enough resolution (DPI) before considering them for your large format product. Vector based artwork such as illustrations or clip-art style elements (from Adobe Illustrator) is made with mathematical calculations, and can be scaled up to any size without losing quality. Keep in mind that any effects used in Adobe Illustrator are raster based and have transparency - this greatly adds to file size and you must have correct settings in your "Document Raster Effects Settings" to ensure best output for these effects. If you're doing a photo-quality print on a 36" x 48" poster, and leave the raster effects settings at default 72 DPI - you may see tiny squares in your drop shadows, as opposed to a smooth shadow.
The Variable Addressing portion has a default font of 12pt Arial, black only. note: if your csv data file contains extremely long names or addresses, the font will automatically be resized to fit the addressing area, but will be no smaller than 9pt type. Please see the example below:   tyrtfttftfguuujpe
We offer several envelope size options printed on 70lb White Premium Uncoated Text or 70lb Natural White.
Artwork file formats: We recommend pdf. You may also send the following types: jpg, jpeg, tif, tiff, eps, and png. Data file formats: We accept csv (comma delimited) format only. On the csv file, the header columns should be labeled exactly as follows:
  • column A: FULL NAME
  • column B: COMPANY
  • column C: ADDRESS
  • column D: SUITE/APT
  • column E: CITY STATE ZIP CODE
Here's a sample of what the Mailing List Excel sheet should look like:   gjyffddffgdde
See our templates pages for layout and addressing position.
VARIABLE MESSAGE SIGN: A sign that includes provisions for message changes. Also called changeable copy panel, changeable copy sign, time and temperature sign, electronic message center, menu board.
VARIANCE: Special administrative procedure by which one may obtain an exception to zoning rules such as height, setback and type of use.
What is a vector image? A vector image is an image made up of lines and curves that are stored as mathematical formulas, and can be moved freely or modified without losing detail or clarity. Whereas a bitmapped image will lose clarity when rescaled, the vector graphic can be scaled indefinitely without losing clarity. The example below shows the effect of a bitmap graphic versus the vector graphic. When zoomed in, the bitmapped image appears jagged, whereas the vector graphic appears clear and crisp.

Start with by thoroughly cleaning and drying the window or application surface. Use a spray bottle filled with soapy water to spray to completely cover the application area. We recommend 1% soap and 99% water. Carefully peel away the backing and avoid letting the cling fold over on itself. Place the side that had the backing against the surface and apply the cling to the window. Use a squeegee or credit card to squeeze out excess water pressing from the center outwards. You can spray more soapy water on the back of the graphic to lubricate the surface as you are eliminating air bubbles.
Clear Window Clings are made of 8mil thick clear glossy material with a paper backer that will be peeled off prior to application. They are suitable for indoor or outdoor use. Ideal for POP signage on glass or other very smooth, clean surfaces. Excessive heat or cold will not allow the product to cling to the surface.
With Clear Window Clings, you have the option to use white ink as an overprint so your printed graphic can be opaque in some areas and transparent in others. This will allow for vibrant, crisp color.
Similar to Spot UV masks, White Mask files are separate from your artwork files and black color indicates where the white ink will print.
Make sure to create your mask file the same size as your color art file. This will prevent alignment issues during printing.
Note: White Masks must be made in vector format and be saved as EPS or PDF and use 100% K. Use vector paths/shapes to create black color areas that will indicate where the white ink base will go. The rest of the area will represent the Clear Window Cling stock.
Black in the White Mask file indicates where white ink will be printed. Remember the following when creating a white mask for your white ink base: - White ink base will be printed behind any color that’s in your Artwork Layer. - Areas with color but without a White Mask will be printed with color directly on the material. These areas will have somewhat transparent color due to the Clear substrate. - Areas with color and a White Mask will be printed as opaque or solid color. - Areas with a White Mask and no color will be printed as white. - The black for the White Mask file must be 0% C 0% M 0% Y 100% K or it will not be recognized by preflight. If your Clear Window Cling is intended to be viewed from the outside of a window, then the artwork should be reversed prior to submission. See images below.

We offer 3 types of foil: Silver, Gold and Copper. We can only use one type of foil per order so for example you can not order a Foil Worx job with Gold foil on the front and Silver foil on the back.
Foil job files are set up just like our Spot UV job files. You must provide a separate Foil mask file: black in the areas you want the foil and white in the areas you do not want the foil. All black areas should be solid 100% K with no other added colors. If you order a Foil Worx job with Spot UV, you'll need to provide separate mask files for the Foil (foil mask) and UV (spot uv mask), in which case you may be required to provide up to 6 files.
Please keep in mind, however, that the Foil and UV coating can't overlap, both should be at least 1/16" apart to avoid foil peeling off. Also, avoid using small / fine text or lines for foil objects. For best results, please make sure that foil coverage is less than 50% of the entire print side.
Also, be aware that there may be up to a 1/16" shift on the placement of the foil. Keep this in mind if you are trying to align foil with other printed artwork on the card.

For better quality we recommend creating mask files in vector based programs such as Illustrator or CorelDRAW.
Adhesive vinyls require two (2) files to be uploaded. The first file is the artwork file and the second file is the cut mask file. Cut mask files need to be in vector format, we can not accept any cut mask files that are made using a raster based program (e.g. Photoshop).
Artwork: Make artwork to the size ordered for e.g. 10 feet x 4 feet (maximum size possible).
Cut Mask File: The cut file should only include the vector paths that the cutter will read. No images or extra text should be on the cut file. Cut file should be set up at the exact size ordered.
Cut lines should be set at a 1pt stroke.
Keep cut lines at least 2 inches away from the edge of the art board and at least 0.5 inches away from other cut lines. Not following this guideline can result with the sheet not cutting properly.
1. How do I set up a Wall Graphics order?
Recommended guidelines for 8mil Wall Graphics file resolution and DPI are available in our "Resolution & Scale Charts". For specifics on bleed and safety zones, see below:
You must submit two separate files for Wall Graphics. One regular artwork file, and one cut mask file. The cut mask is used to cut your Wall Graphic order into whatever shape you like. The cut file must be an all vector, PDF file that must be uploaded at the same time you upload the artwork file.
We can not accept any cut mask files that are made using a raster based program (e.g. Photoshop). Here are some rules you must follow when creating your artwork and cut file:
  • Make sure your artwork has a 1" bleed on all sides and .5" safety margin for the kiss cut. Keep everything you do not want cut inside of the .5" kiss cut safety margin.
  • Your document or canvas size must be 2" away from all kiss cut lines. 1.5" for the kiss cut safety margin and bleed and .5" additional. This outside dimension is the size product you should order.
  • In your cut mask, your mask line must be a vector path / line that has a 1pt black stroke, and you should keep your fill set as empty.
  • Tolerance for the perimeter cut line is .5"
  • Do not use small/thin kiss cut areas, or have perimeter cut lines that are too close together. At least .5" must separate your perimeter cut lines from each other, Grand4Mat will not reprint any order with perimeter cut lines that are too close to one another.
  • Your kiss cut line should be smooth. If your kiss cut line is ragged, has imperfections or bumps, this will show up in the final piece. All kiss cut mask shapes must be fully closed paths, no disconnected lines or open paths will cut. If you have too many sharp angled curves or edges, they may cause unwanted tears in the material. Grand4mat will not reprint any order attributed to improper file setup or layout.
  • If you are tracing an image to create your cut mask, be sure to delete your image from your cut mask file before saving and submitting it through our website. Also, make sure there are no cut lines included in your print-ready artwork file as they will be printed.
  • The blade will follow the cut mask line you’ve created. It is recommended that you keep your perimeter cut line slightly inside the border of the image you are trying to cut out. This will avoid any obvious edges from your background to show once it is cut.
Here is an example of how to trace an image. The RED color of the cut line is for demonstration only. Your cut line should be a black 1 point stroke. Here is the image we are going to trace. We will trace around the design, making sure to leave enough room between perimeter cut lines.
 wdfgfgdfq-1
When creating your perimeter cut line, make sure it is not at the very edge, but slightly inside of the image you want to cut out. This way the background does not show up after the cut.

Here, you can see the kiss cut line overlay on top of the image that is going to be cut out. Always make sure your kiss cut line is smooth and does not have sharp angled curves or edges.
